Beauty Salon in Hurghada: What to Book, What It Costs, When to Go

A week in Hurghada is a week of strong ultraviolet light, sea salt, pool chlorine, air conditioning and sand. Each one takes something from you, and the effects stack up faster than at home.

Skin loses water to the dry desert air and builds a layer of sunscreen, sweat and dead cells that no hotel face wash removes. By day four most guests describe their face as "tight and dull at the same time". That is dehydration plus congestion, and it is exactly what a HydraFacial is designed for.

Nails soften in sea water and chip on rocks, reef shoes and boat ladders. Polish applied at home before the flight rarely survives the first snorkelling trip. Cuticles dry out and split. A spa manicure and spa pedicure restore the shape and, with gel, give a finish that lasts the rest of the holiday.

Hair suffers most. Salt crystals lift the cuticle, sun bleaches the colour, chlorine turns blonde hair green and everything becomes rough and impossible to style. The hair spa with keratin mask rebuilds the surface; a wash and blow-dry is the quick fix for one evening.

A HydraFacial is a machine-based facial that cleans, exfoliates, extracts and hydrates in one pass using a spiral tip and a vacuum. There is no downtime, no redness the next morning and no peeling, which is the reason it is the most requested facial in our salon during the tourist season.

The treatment has four stages: a gentle acid peel softens the surface, the vortex tip lifts blackheads and sunscreen residue out of the pores (you will see the grey water in the collection jar afterwards), a serum of hyaluronic acid and antioxidants is pushed into the skin, and a cooling mask finishes. Most guests say their skin looks "like after a week of sleep". Makeup goes on smoothly straight away.

Who it suits: anyone with dull, congested or dehydrated skin, men as well as women, and guests with a dinner or photos the same evening. Who should wait: guests with active sunburn, open blemishes or a skin condition under treatment. We look at the skin before starting and will tell you honestly if a deep cleansing facial at €22 is the better choice for your skin that day.

• Spa manicure, €22: soak, shaping, cuticle care, hand massage and regular polish. Ideal for guests who like to change colour or who only need clean hands for a dinner. Regular polish lasts about four days of pool and sea.
• Spa pedicure, €22: warm foot soak, hard-skin removal, nail shaping, foot massage and polish. This is the one every guest in sandals should book on day two or three, before the heels crack.
• Gel manicure and pedicure combo, €40: both, with gel colour cured under a lamp. Gel does not chip in salt water, survives snorkelling and diving, and usually looks new for three weeks, so it outlasts the whole holiday.

All nail treatments are by appointment. A useful trick for divers and snorkellers: book the pedicure for an afternoon after your last boat day, so the fresh polish is not scraped by fins, or go straight to gel at the start of the trip and forget about it.

Men are welcome. Around a quarter of our pedicure guests are men whose feet have met a reef, and a sports pedicure without polish costs the same €22.

Rinse it with fresh water immediately after the sea, keep it covered at midday, and give it one proper salon treatment in the middle of the holiday. That is the whole method; here is why.

Salt water dries on the hair as crystals that keep pulling moisture out for hours. A fresh-water rinse at the beach shower stops that. Sun then breaks down the protein in the hair shaft, which is why holiday hair feels like straw even when it is clean. Conditioner from the hotel bathroom coats the surface but does not repair it.

The hair spa with keratin mask at €27 is the repair step. The hair is washed twice, a keratin and argan mask is applied and warmed so it penetrates, the scalp is massaged, and the hair is blow-dried smooth. Colour-treated and bleached hair benefits the most. Guests usually book it around day five, then again before the flight if they are staying two weeks.

For one evening, the wash and blow-dry at €17 is enough: deep-cleansing shampoo to strip salt and chlorine, a light mask, and styling that holds through dinner and a beach club. Both hair services are by appointment, and long or very thick hair is welcome, just tell us in the message so we plan the chair time.

Nail and facial tools touch broken skin, so hygiene is not a detail. Use this list in any salon in Egypt or anywhere else. A good salon will be happy you asked.
