Turkish hammam vs Moroccan hammam in Hurghada
Both are 90-minute steam and scrub rituals on heated marble, both leave your skin noticeably smoother, and both cost under EUR 30. The difference is in the products, the intensity of the scrub and the feeling afterwards. Short answer: choose Turkish for the softest, most relaxing version and Moroccan for the deepest exfoliation.

What is the difference between a Turkish and a Moroccan hammam?
Turkish hammam (EUR 22, 90 min):
- Steam room warm-up on heated marble for 15 to 20 minutes
- Full-body scrub with a coarse kese mitt
- Signature foam wash: a cloud of soap foam poured over you from a muslin bag, followed by a foam massage
- Warm rinse with brass bowls, hair wash, then a short oil massage
Moroccan hammam (EUR 27, 90 min):
- Steam warm-up, slightly hotter and more humid
- Black olive soap (beldi) applied all over and left for 10 minutes to soften the skin
- Vigorous scrub with a kessa glove that visibly rolls off dead skin
- Rhassoul clay mask from the Atlas mountains, then rinse and argan oil finish
The Turkish version is about softness and foam; the Moroccan version is about the scrub and the clay.
Which hammam is better for my skin?
- Dry or flaky skin after a week of sun and sea: Moroccan. The black soap plus kessa removes far more dead skin.
- Sensitive skin, eczema-prone or sunburnt: Turkish. The kese is gentler and the foam is soothing.
- Tanned and want to keep it: Turkish. The Moroccan scrub takes off the top layer and can lighten a fresh tan by a shade.
- First hammam ever: Turkish. It is easier to relax into.
- Second hammam of the holiday: Moroccan, at least 3 days after the first.
- Men with hairy backs: either works; the kessa glove is often preferred.
Which hammam is more relaxing and which is more intense?
Turkish is more relaxing; most guests fall half asleep during the foam massage. Moroccan is more intense; the scrub can feel slightly rough for the first minute and the steam is hotter. Both end with a cool-down, tea and a quiet lounge, and both take roughly 90 minutes on the table plus 20 minutes of resting.
If you want the feeling of a real cultural bath house, Turkish is closer to what you would find in Istanbul. If you want the strongest visible skin result, Moroccan wins.

Can I do both, or add a massage?
Do both on different days, at least 72 hours apart, because the skin needs time between deep scrubs. Adding a massage on the same day is the classic combination: hammam first, massage after, because scrubbed and warm skin takes oil better. The 60-minute relax massage (EUR 17) is the usual partner for Turkish; the 90-minute deep tissue (EUR 22) pairs well with Moroccan.
The Cleopatra Program (120 min, EUR 27) is our own signature combination: a Turkish-style foam stage, a honey and milk wrap and a full massage, for guests who want one longer session rather than two separate treatments.
How to prepare and what to expect on the day
- Avoid a big meal in the 90 minutes before your slot and skip alcohol; the steam room is not pleasant on a full stomach.
- Do not shave the same day; the scrub on freshly shaved skin stings.
- Wear swimwear or use the disposable underwear we provide. You are never fully undressed.
- Drink the water and tea offered before and after; you sweat more than you notice.
- Skip sunbathing for the rest of the day after a Moroccan scrub, and use the aloe gel we give you.

Yes, unless you book with a partner or family. Sessions are private, not communal.
Once every 7 to 10 days is the traditional rhythm. On a two-week holiday, one Turkish at the start and one Moroccan a week later is ideal.
No. Wait until the burn has calmed, usually 3 to 4 days, and then choose Turkish. For fresh sunburn book the After-Sun Recovery Ritual instead.
Ask your doctor first. We keep steam sessions short and can skip the hottest stage, but a hammam is not a medical treatment.
Children from 6 years can join the Family Hammam Experience (EUR 64 for up to 4) with a gentle foam wash and lower heat.
Nothing. Robe, slippers, towels, disposable underwear and shower products are provided. Bring a hair tie if you have long hair.
