Gel Manicure

The Gel Manicure is our answer to the one thing that ruins holiday nails: chipping. Sixty minutes at the beauty salon in Panorama Mall for €35 per person (normally €45), with free hotel pickup and drop-off anywhere inside Hurghada. Classic polish gives up after four days of snorkelling and sunscreen. Gel does not.

What happens during a gel manicure in Hurghada?

Sixty minutes, ten steps, no rushing. The order matters as much as the product, because gel only holds if the nail plate underneath is clean and dry before the first coat goes on.

• Hands cleaned and sanitised, and any old polish or gel taken off.
• Trim and shape to the length you want, in the shape you want: square, squoval, almond or round.
• Cuticle work: softened, pushed back and neatened with sterilised metal tools.
• Dust removed from the nail plate so the base coat bonds properly.
• Base coat, cured under the LED lamp.
• First gel colour coat, thin and even, cured.
• Second gel colour coat for full depth of colour, cured.
• Top coat, cured, for the glass-like finish that stops chipping.
• Cuticle oil and a short hand massage to finish.

How long does gel last on a Red Sea holiday?

Two to three weeks with normal sea and pool use, which is longer than most holidays. That is the whole point: you have it done on day one or two and forget about your hands until you are home. Salt water, sunscreen and sand do not lift a properly cured gel the way they lift classic polish after four days.

Nails that are thin or peeling

Tell the technician at the start and she will use a strengthening base underneath the colour. If sun and sea have left your nails soft, this is worth doing, and it costs nothing extra.

Choosing your colour

There is a wall of shades at the salon, and you are welcome to sit with it for a few minutes. If you already know what you want, send a photo on WhatsApp before your appointment and we will have it ready. Nudes and soft pinks photograph best against a tan; corals and reds are the holiday classics; a single accent nail is included if you want one.

Hygiene, in plain terms

Files and buffers are single-use and opened in front of you. Metal tools go through an autoclave after every guest. Linens are fresh for each appointment. It is the question guests ask most often about nails, and the answer should never be vague.
