Spa in Hurghada: The Complete Guide for Tourists

Hurghada has four kinds of spa, and the word "spa" on a sign can mean any of them. Knowing the difference is the single most useful thing you can learn before you book.

• Resort hotel spas. Located inside the all-inclusive hotels along the coast. Convenient, usually well equipped, and priced for a captive audience: a 60-minute massage often costs €50 to €90.
• City spas and wellness centres. Independent venues in Hurghada town, mostly around Mubarak 2, the Marina and El Dahar. This is where locals and repeat visitors go. Expect a 60-minute massage from €17 and a full hammam from €22, with free pickup from your hotel.
• Traditional hammams. Some venues only run the bath ritual (steam, scrub, foam wash) without massage rooms or a beauty salon. Authentic, but limited if you want a full afternoon.
• Salon-style "spa" rooms. A massage bed in the back of a hairdresser or a shop. Prices look low, hygiene and training vary widely. Ask to see the room before you agree to anything.

Wellness-Hurghada belongs to the second group: a city spa with hammam rooms, massage rooms, sauna, jacuzzi and steam, plus a full beauty salon for facials, nails and hair under the same roof. That combination matters for tourists because you can do a Turkish hammam and a classic pedicure in one visit, with one pickup.

For most visitors the city spa wins on price, choice and the quality of the hammam, and the hotel spa wins on walking distance. Here is an honest comparison from people who work in the industry.

Price. A resort spa pays resort rent and resort commissions, so a treatment that costs €22 in town is €60 or more inside the hotel. Over a two-week holiday with three or four spa visits, the difference pays for a day trip.

Hammam quality. Many resort spas have a small steam cabin and call it a hammam. A real hammam needs a heated marble room, a warm marble slab, running water basins and a therapist trained in the foam wash and kessa scrub. City spas that specialise in hammam do this every day; resort spas often do not.

Logistics. The hotel spa is downstairs. A city spa should solve that for you with transport. We include free hotel pickup and drop-off anywhere inside Hurghada, and we add €10 per booking for Sahl Hasheesh, El Gouna and Makadi Bay. The driver waits in the lobby at the agreed time; you are back at the hotel after the treatment.

Booking terms. Resort spas usually charge to your room and require a deposit for packages. We let you reserve online or on WhatsApp without entering card details, you pay when you arrive in euros, Egyptian pounds or by card, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the start.

The practical rule: use the hotel spa for a 20-minute head massage on a lazy afternoon, and come into town for the hammam, the long massage and the beauty salon.

A hammam is a warm-room bathing ritual. It is not a sauna, it is not painful, and you do not need to have done it before. This is the sequence you will go through with us, and the etiquette questions we hear every day.

1. 1Changing. You receive a locker, a towel wrap (a pestemal) and disposable underwear. Most guests keep the disposable underwear or their own swimwear on for the whole ritual. Nobody is naked.
2. 2Steam. 10 to 15 minutes in the steam room opens the pores and softens the skin so the scrub works.
3. 3Warm marble. You lie on a heated marble slab while the therapist pours warm water over you from a bowl. This is the moment most first-timers remember.
4. 4Scrub. A rough kessa glove removes dead skin. You will see grey rolls of skin come off; that is normal and it is the whole point.
5. 5Foam wash. Clouds of olive-oil soap foam are spread over the body with a cloth bag and massaged in. Turkish style uses white foam, Moroccan style starts with black soap first.
6. 6Rinse and rest. Cool water, then a robe, mint tea and 15 minutes in the relax lounge.

Etiquette in short: arrive without heavy makeup, do not shave the same day (the scrub will sting), skip a big meal in the hour before, tell the therapist if the room feels too hot, and drink water afterwards. Men and women are treated in private rooms by a therapist of the same gender unless you request otherwise as a couple. The Turkish hammam is the right first hammam; the Moroccan hammam is the deeper scrub for dry or sun-damaged skin; the Cleopatra Program adds the sauna, the jacuzzi and a full oil massage and is our most booked treatment.

Timing changes what your body needs. This is the schedule our therapists suggest to guests who ask "what should I book, and when?"

• Arrival day or day 2: jet lag and airplane stiffness. Book the 60-minute relax massage in the evening. Gentle, warm oil, sleep follows.
• Day 3 or 4: the first real sun days. The Turkish hammam resets the skin before it starts peeling and is the best value on the menu.
• Mid-holiday: after diving, snorkelling, quad bikes or a long desert trip, shoulders and lower back complain. Choose the 90-minute deep tissue massage or hot stone.
• Any red day: if you overdid the sun, the after-sun recovery ritual cools and rehydrates without scrubbing. Do not book a hammam scrub on sunburned skin.
• Windy day, boat trip cancelled: the Family Hammam Experience or the sauna, jacuzzi and steam pass turns a lost day into a good one.
• Two days before departure: the Cleopatra Program or the Couples Spa Escape as the holiday highlight, with time to recover before the flight.
• Last day: no scrubs. Book a head, neck and shoulder massage or a blow-dry so you land looking rested.

One more rule: book the hammam for the late afternoon, not the morning. You will be relaxed, clean and warm exactly when the evening starts.

Every reservation with us includes a driver. It is the part of the service tourists worry about most, so here is exactly how it works.

When you book, you tell us your hotel name and a preferred start time. We confirm the pickup time on WhatsApp (+20 10 29844727), usually 20 to 30 minutes before your treatment depending on where the hotel is. The driver waits at the hotel lobby or main gate with a Wellness-Hurghada sign; some resorts do not let cars in, so the meeting point is the security gate. After the treatment, the same driver takes you back, or to a restaurant, the Marina or the old town if you prefer.

Pickup is free inside Hurghada, from Al Ahyaa in the north to the Mubarak 2 hotels in the south. Sahl Hasheesh, El Gouna and Makadi Bay are outside the city, and we add €10 per booking for the longer drive. Couples, families and groups ride together in one car.

The spa is open 10:00 to 18:00 every day, with the last treatment starting at 18:00, and the beauty salon runs 10:00 to 22:00 with the last appointment at 21:00. Evening slots from 18:00 fill first, so for a specific evening send a message a day or two ahead. Reservation needs no card, payment is after the treatment, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before.

Good venues in Hurghada run to the same hygiene standard you would expect in Europe; bad ones do not, and the price difference between the two is small, so there is no reason to gamble. Use this checklist on any spa, including ours.

• Fresh linen on every bed, changed in front of you, and a fresh towel wrap in the hammam.
• Disposable underwear and slippers offered, not reused.
• Kessa gloves are single use or belong to you; ask.
• Massage oil is poured from a sealed bottle, not a communal bowl.
• Nail and facial tools are sterilised in a visible autoclave or come out of sealed pouches.
• The therapist asks about health conditions, pregnancy, allergies and sunburn before starting. If they do not ask, walk out.
• Prices are written down before the treatment and match what you pay after.
